Barra more consistent

27/9/2013

Only fished twice this week and the barra are about. Fished the high tide with mate Hippy on tuesday and bagged five fish by 9.30 am and stopped fishing. The fish were all around the 65cm range and were taking lures and baits. Yesterday I fished with three anglers from NSW and despite the neap tides we still managed to boat three keepers, the biggest being 70cm. Added to that 11 crabs and the crew had a good Territory feed.

You just gotta love barra fishing in the build up. The fish are all big, fit, chrome plated and put up a great fight. Although the build up doesnt start officially until next month but the build up barra are on the chew. Ive had a busy week this week doing five tours and the fish have been playing the game. We have been getting quality fish on both the high and low tides but a bit of movement is needed on the high tide.  Crabs have been patchy but a feed can alway

Paul Avery with a nice 79cm build up Barra
Fished the low tide yesterday in the Little howard with Mark and Paul Avery. I am pleased to say it was the beast days fishing we have had in a while. It looks like the build up barra are just starting to play the game with some solid fish about. We landed five barra and a threadfin salmon. the biggest fish we landed was 79cm and Paul was gill raked by a 90cm plus fish. We missed a lot of fish dropping seven. They were biting right through the day taking live bait & lures. Crabs are a liitle patchy at the moment but there is always a feed to be had.

Water Warming Up

Lorna,s first barra
The past month has been tough to get fish with the water being very cold and business being super slow. Went for a fish yesterday with my wife Narelle and friend Lorna. To my suprise the water has warmed up significantly being 28.5 degrees and there was a fair bit of bait around for the first time in a while. Despite the neap tides we managed to catch a couple of barra and lost a few as well. Lorna who has been in the territory for over 20 years finaly caught her first barra a nice 67cm fish. So with a bit more movement in tides coming, good water temp and some bait in the system I am anticipating the fishing will start to pick up from here on.
